Parallel implementation for solution verification of CFD code

چکیده
In the context of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), a standard method that can assess the accuracy of the solution remains a challenge. In our previous work, we have explored an optimized extrapolation method to improve Richardson extrapolation for solution verification [4, 5, 6, 7]. In this paper, we extends the method to the evaluation of the conditioning number of the PDE at hand. Our method allows the construction not to require an internal knowledge of the software neither the source code that produces the solution to be verified. One of the key aspect of our method is its intrinsic parallelism. We will present in detail an implementation that can take advantage of this parallelism on an heterogeneous network of computers.

‘verification and Validation’ in Modeling Fire by Computational Fluid Dynamics
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is an important tool in fire safety engineering. CFD is applied in many projects while the global trend is moving towards the implementation of engineering performance-based fire codes. However, questions are always raised on the model credibility. Verification and validation of the CFD predicted results in fire engineering are not yet carried out with systema...
متن کاملVerification, Validation, and Solution Quality in Computational Physics: CFD Methods Applied to Ice Sheet Physics
There are procedures and methods for verification of coding algebra and for validations of models and calculations that are in use in the aerospace computational fluid dynamics (CFD) community. These methods would be efficacious if used by the glacier dynamics modeling community. This paper is a presentation of some of those methods, and how they might be applied to uncertainty management suppo...
متن کاملVerification and Validation in Computational Fluid Dynamics
Verification and validation (V&V) are the primary means to assess accuracy and reliability in computational simulations. This paper presents an extensive review of the literature in V&V in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), discusses methods and procedures for assessing V&V, and develops a number of extensions to existing ideas. The review of the development of V&V terminology and methodology ...
متن کاملModular Coupling for Parallel Fluid-Structure Interaction Computations
A parallel CFD code capable of simulating flow within moving boundaries is coupled to a beam element structural dynamics code. The coupled codes are used to simulate fluid-structure interaction for a class of applications involving long and slender structures, e.g., suspension bridges and offshore risers. Due to the difference in size and dimensionality of the 3D CFD problem on one side, and th...
متن کامل3D Parallel Mesh Adaptivity: Data-Structures and Algorithms
The eecient solution of transient CFD problems on distributed memory computers requires the use of parallel adaptive meshing. We will discuss issues arising in the parallelisation of a general-purpose, unstructured, tetrahedral adaptivity code. In particular, we will consider data-structure issues such as communications links and the parallelisation of complex hierarchical data-structures. We w...
